The Doll Study

Here I've included a very readable blog post briefly breaking down the Clark and Clark Doll Experiment. I was immediately reminded of the Clark Doll Study as soon as I read about Claudia hating her White baby doll in the beginning of the novel. I think the post I linked is useful for someone unfamiliar with the study as well as unfamiliar with Black internalized racism in children. This is crucial to understanding Pecola's thoughts and feelings about blue eyes (or, rather, as close to "understanding" as one can get without firsthand experience). .
